This is how DND has always worked on iOS. It's rather annoying and I hope you agree with me. Tl dr In iOS 8, despite a conversation being muted via the new "Do Not Disturb" feature within the Messages app, banner notifications continue to appear while using the device and still appear on the Lock Screen. Apple has already indicated that this behavior is normal, so please let them know if you would like to see it changed. Additionally, because all those texts appear on the Lock Screen, it basically makes my Lock Screen worthless because I have to scroll through all those messages just to find the notifications that are actually relevant to me.ĭoes anyone else agree with me, here? I really hope enough people do that we can all make suggestions about this on /feedback. Because while it's great that my iPhone no longer buzzes in my pocket constantly, the banner notifications that I keep getting for a conversation I muted via "Do Not Disturb" is pretty annoying. Is that so difficult? Apple has decided yes, it is. I just want no notifications from that individual text message conversation. I still want to receive notifications from other conversations though - so I don't want to turn on the system-wide "Do Not Disturb" setting. I should be able to mute that individual conversation via the new "Do Not Disturb" feature within Messages, and not receive notifications of any kind from that conversation until I disable it. I can skim through them later, but I don't need them interrupting me with a banner notification or taking up valuable space on my Lock Screen.įor example: Let's say I'm working on an important project on my iPhone, or maybe I'm playing an intense game, or maybe I just don't want to fucking be disturbed by this chatty group text. In fact, the only thing that should happen is that the texts should sit in the Messages app, waiting to be read. By enabling "Do Not Disturb" on a conversation, banner notifications and Lock Screen notifications for that conversation should not appear. People will primarily use the new "Do Not Disturb" feature in Messages app for chatty group conversations they may still want to be a part of, but just not all the time. Great, huh? Except for one major thing.ĭespite a conversation being muted via the new "Do Not Disturb" feature within iOS 8 Messages app, banner notifications continue to appear while using the device and still appear on the Lock Screen. Enter iOS 8's "Do Not Disturb" feature in Messages app! Huzzah!įinally, you can "mute" a conversation, ensuring your iPhone doesn't buzz constantly in your pocket because of a group text. I don't want to actually "leave" the group conversation, I just wish I wasn't constantly notified when they send a text to everyone in the group. I am in a couple very chatty group messages with friends and family.
